German carmaker Volkswagen has begun production of a new sedan at its Chakan plant near Pune. The car which is being positioned between the Polo hatchback and Jetta would be launched by August-September this year.

“We have already started producing the new sedan which would be bigger than Polo but smaller than Jetta. We are currently producing it in small numbers and would commercially launch it by August this year,” Kurt Rippholz, head, communications India Volkswagen group and brand, said.
Volkswagen Vento is expected to be priced between Rs. 9-10 lakh that will compete with hot selling models like Honda City. The car will be powered by 1.6L engine delivering 105 bhp and will be available as petrol and diesel variants. Once launched, the three-box car would be pitted against models like Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Toyota’s upcoming Etios sedan, Maruti Suzuki SX4, Ford Fiesta, etc.
